Our mission

Our mission is to transform waste from an environmental liability into valuable resources by harnessing the power of the circular economy

We believe that the only way we will meet the international climate target of keeping global warming to well below 2 degrees Celsius, and to explore efforts to limit the temperature increase to under 1.5 degrees Celsius, is through disruptive innovation and immediate action.

TreaTech’s sustainable technology contributes to climate change mitigation and supports the global energy transition by converting liquid and solid waste streams into methane-rich renewable gas. We believe in the power of our technology and the role it can play to help shape a sustainable future.

Our story

TreaTech was founded in 2015 by Life Sciences and chemical engineers at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne. We are a team of 10 experienced and highly motivated members sharing a common interest for creating a sustainable future.

Combined, we have more than 50 years of expertise in entrepreneurship, technology validation, process engineering and catalyst research, making us the ideal team to help transform your waste treatment processes.

Together we have created one of the few available solutions that is able to revalue 100% of the end products of different waste streams after treatment, meaning nothing is left unused.

Frédéric Juillard

Founder & CEO

Frederic is a Swiss-French engineer and entrepreneur. He completed his Master’s degree at the Swiss Institute of Technology (EPFL) and UC Berkeley.

He was the co-founder of Naphtis, a project dealing with biofuel production from biomass waste, where he acquired experience in feasibility demonstration and prototyping, as well as the skills required to move from an academic project to a business-oriented organization.

Frederic worked for two years as a scientific collaborator at IPESE group at the Swiss Institute of Technology (EPFL) before he incorporated TreaTech in October 2015.

Dr. Gaël Peng

Co-founder & CTO

Gaël is a Swiss-French chemical engineer. He completed his PhD in Energy Research, with specialization in bioenergy and heterogeneous catalysis, at the Paul Scherrer Institute and Swiss Institute of Technology (EPFL).
He acquired experience in the development of high-pressure processes and in biomass conversion technologies. In May 2016, he joined TreaTech as CTO to lead the technology validation phase.

Raquel Zambrano Varela

Co-founder & COO

Raquel is a chemical engineer from Spain. She obtained a Master in Chemical Engineering & Biotechnology at EPFL after she graduated from the Universidad de Sevilla and Aalto University in Helsinki.

She previously worked at Holdigaz Services and INERCO where she acquired numerous skills regarding process engineering and project management. She joined TreaTech in late 2017 focusing on the valorization of extracted mineral salts into valuable Phosphorus building blocks. She currently coordinates and oversees the different business development lines of the technology.

Pierre-Cédric Vigna

CPO

Pierre-Cédric is a French chemical engineer. He travelled the world working for large companies in various fields including Oil & Gas extraction in Latin America and lastly in the monomers production in China as a process and project engineer.

He joined Treatech in April 2021 as CPO to lead the scale up of the hydrothermal gasification technology into an industrial phase.
